Chapter 8 - Stumbling over Jesus
Chapter Scriptures: 1 Peter 2:4-9
“You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.” 1 Peter 2:4
Many people, myself included, have been deeply impacted by Hillsong Worship’s song, “Cornerstone.” This song was released a number of years back when I was first growing in my faith and learning to rely upon Jesus.
As Rev Shane explains in our chapter for this week, Jesus is the cornerstone of our individual lives, our churches, and the Kingdom of all Christians. Jesus is the solid point of our faith, not the “good” things we do, the people we know, or our influence possessions. Jesus alone is the cornerstone our lives are built on as Christians.
Entering into this week, let’s begin with a song in our heart! Of course, it’s going to be Cornerstone by Hillsong Worship.

Hillsong Worship - Cornerstone
Chorus
Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior's love
Through the storm He is Lord
Lord of all
We’re diving into some history with our links this week. First, we look at a breakdown of what it means for Jesus to be the cornerstone, followed by a historic look at what the Temple would have looked like during Jesus’ time. And finally, we have a link to Toby Mac’s song, also titled “Cornerstone.”

Heavenly Father, let us build our lives upon the solid rock of Jesus Christ. He is the only firm and true place where we can find peace and joy. Jesus is our Savior, our hope, and our light in the dark. Remove the stumbling blocks from our lives and show us the truth in Jesus. It’s in His mighty name we pray. Amen.
